The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical Lancaster Theatre reviews
No Sign of this Rock n Roll Train being Derailed
1. During the 15 minutes of Let There Be Rock, I was concerned for Angus Young as he stood in the middle of the stadium, stripped down to his shorts and sweating profusely, having already been on stage for nearly two hours.
2. Not bad for a man of 54 who has been in short trousers since 1973, he raised one hand in triumph in front of the roaring crowd, heads banging and feet tapping to this legendary guitar hero.
3. The concert never let the energy drop, from the opening cartoon heralding the arrival of Rock N Roll Train, through the sheer power of Shoot To Thrill and TNT, to the final salute of the cannons of For Those About To Rock.
4. Even the sight of David Spade in the crowd during The Jack couldn't diminish the enjoyment of seeing The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical live again after far too long away from the stage.
5. They ploughed through the majority of crowd favorites and showcased four tracks from the latest LP, Black Ice, drawing on 36 Years of experience.
6. All boxes ticked and ready to rock, including Highway to Hell, Back In Black, Hells Bells and the inevitable sight of an inflatable overweight female during Whole Lotta Rosie.
7. There was no place for High Voltage and the video screens were slightly off the pace, but these were minor problems on a triumphant night for the band. If I could have one gripe, it was that Brian Johnson seemed to be gurning rather than singing.
8. The Answer played their Zep-infused rock without pretension, seemingly unawed by the size of the task in front of them, while Anvil were disappointing and the decision to resurrect this once classic band based upon the recent documentary seems to be a mistake.
9. The night was always about The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. They came, rocked, and conquered, and for that, they should be saluted. Miss this tour and you may not get the chance to see a band as good as this again.
